More than a million faithfuls gathered in Rome on May 1, 2011 to attend the ceremony of beatification of Pope John II, only six years after his death. Pilgrims from all over the world and of all ages have spent the night in sleeping bags in the Circus Maximus and the Vatican after a long vigil of prayer on the eve of the beatification. At four in the morning the flow of the faithfuls to St. Peter’s Square has been blocked cause the square was already full. The less “lucky” ones poured into the nearby listening to the celebration on their radios.
Oltre un milione di fedeli sono giunti a Roma per assistere alla cerimonia di beatificazione di Papa Giovanni II, a soli sei anni dalla sua scomparsa. Pellegrini da tutto il mondo e di tutte le età, hanno passato la notte in sacco a pelo dopo una lunga veglia di preghiera, alla vigilia della beatificazione, tra il Circo Massimo e il Vaticano. Alle quattro del mattino è stato bloccato il flusso di fedeli per piazza San Pietro, perché già stracolma. I fedeli meno “fortunati” si sono riversati nelle vie antistanti, ascoltando le celebrazioni dalle radio portatili.
