Women in the forefront for a new Egypt.
Omaima Kamel, a candidate of the Freedom and Justice Party is the first woman elected to the new Egyptian parliament. An historic achievement and even more so, as the Muslim Brotherhood (to which thet FJP is affiliated) is the party that has achieved an overwhelming majority during the last elections of November 28.
But Omaima is not alone; other women are actively and increasingly participating as well in the process of modernization and renewal of the country and in the battle for equality of the female figure, a real “change inside the change”, in a society traditionally crushed by the military and political male power.
The reportage brings together some of these protagonists, in the portraits of our photographer Luca Sola and in the interviews of our journalist Giuliano DiCaro; Dr Omaima Kamel, newly-elected Member for Freedom and Justice Party; Amira, the youngest director of an Egyptian newspaper; Anjie, activist of the 6 April Movement; Randa, blogger; Amal, lawyer; Hadeer, volunteer in a field hospital set up in Tahrir Square, which has treated more than 1000 wounded….
Female characters who are struggling, sometimes even risking their lives to defend the rights of women and free them from an ancient oppression, or who simply are demonstrating, through their work and active participation in society, which is the way to a true democratic country.
Donne in prima linea per un nuovo Egitto.
Omaima Kamal, candidata del Freedom and Justice Party, è la prima donna eletta nel nuovo parlamento egiziano. Un risultato storico, ancor più netto perché il FJP è in coalizione con il partito dei Fratelli Musulmani, il partito che ha raggiunto la schiacciante maggioranza durante le ultime elezioni del 28 Novembre.
Ma Omaima non è sola; altre donne stanno partecipando attivamente al processo di modernizzazione e rinnovamento del Paese e alla battaglia per la conquista di eguaglianza della figura femminile, un vero e proprio “cambiamento nel cambiamento” in una società tradizionalmente schiacciata dal potere maschile politico e militare.
Il reportage raccoglie alcune di queste testimonianze, nei ritratti del nostro fotografo Luca Sola e nelle interviste del nostro giornalista Giuliano DiCaro; oltre Omaima Kamal , neo-eletta parlamentare per il Freedom and Justice Party; Amira, la più giovane direttrice di un giornale egiziano; Anjie, attivista del Movimento del 6 Aprile; Randa, blogger; Amal, avvocato; Hadeer, volontaria in un ospedale da campo allestito in piazza Tahrir che ha curato oltre 1000 feriti.
Figure femminili che stanno lottando, a volte anche a rischio della vita, per difendere i diritti della donna e liberarla da un’oppressione millenaria; o che semplicemente stanno dimostrando, attraverso il loro lavoro e partecipazione attiva nella società, quale sia la via verso un vero paese davvero democratico.
