The year 1989 marks the end of communist regime in the former USSR. What does this mean today for people born in those years? Who are the children of perestroika? Twenty years later from one of the most important changes of our era young Russians feel the very strong influence of the European and American culture. In St. Petersburg, above all, the younger generations desire to belong to and to share the same lifestyles of their European neighbours, taking as an example two of the cities considered a symbol of freedom, such as London and Berlin. A dream come true but at the same time a symbol of revenge still strongly felt against all the prohibitions imposed by the old Soviet regime in the past decades.
This reportage gives us a snapshot of the lives of the post-perestroika generation, which has transformed St. Petersburg into a city full of energy and possibly some excess, far though from the stereotype of sex tourism capital.
Il 1989 ha segnato le fine del regime comunista nell’ex USSR. Che cosa significa questo oggi e che impronta ha lasciato a chi vi è nato in quegli anni ? Chi sono i figli della perestroika? A vent’anni di distanza da uno dei cambiamenti più importanti della nostra epoca, i giovani russi sentono fortissima l’influenza della cultura europea e americana . A San Pietroburgo (l’ex Leningrado), soprattutto, si respira nelle nuove generazioni il desiderio di appartenere e di condividere gli ideali dei propri coetanei europei, traendo ispirazione dagli stili di vita di due tra le città considerate da sempre simbolo di libertà, Londra e Berlino. Un sogno che si avvera, ma allo stesso tempo una rivalsa, ancora presente, contro tutti quei divieti imposti dal vecchio regime sovietico nei decenni passati.
Questo reportage ci regala un’istantanea della vita dei giovani post-perestroika, che hanno trasformato San Pietroburgo in una città ricca di energia e forse di qualche eccesso, ma lontana da quello stereotipo che ne faceva la principale meta del turismo sessuale.
