They arrived in Italy packed in trucks boarded on cargos, tucked under trailers, hidden in railway carriages when they still were almost children. Children who grew up too fast, risking their lives for the dream of a better future, away from their lands tormented by poverty and war. They are the minors, unaccompanied migrants who arrive in our country from Asia, Africa and Eastern Europe, as invisible as the face of illegal immigration. Half of them disappears into thin air, their traces lost on the whole European territory, often ending up in the hands of human traffickers, as it appears from data provided by “Save the Children” organization.
Some, however, do make it, and are welcomed in various communities throughout the country, who put at their disposal the necessary tools to build a new future, supporting their studies, helping them finding a new network of friends, and the chance of a decent work. These are the “children” who have achieved their dream, which today is no longer illegal. Their stories, in the reportage of Stefano Marzoli.
Sono arrivati In Italia stipati nei camion imbarcati sulle navi, infilati sotto i rimorchi o nascosti nei vagoni ferroviari. Poco più che bambini, cresciuti troppo in fretta. Hanno rischiato la vita per il sogno di un destino migliore, lontano dalle proprie terre martoriate da povertà e guerre. Sono i minori, migranti non accompagnati, giunti dall’Asia, dall’Africa e dall’Europa orientale; il volto più invisibile dell’immigrazione clandestina. Metà di loro sparisce nel nulla, di loro si perdono le tracce sul territorio europeo, finendo spesso nelle mani di trafficanti di esseri umani, come emerge dai dati forniti da “Save the Children”.
Alcuni però ce l’hanno fatta, trovando accoglienza nelle varie comunità sparse sul territorio nazionale, che hanno messo loro a disposizione gli strumenti necessari per costruirsi un nuovo futuro, attraverso lo studio, gli affetti e la possibilità di un lavoro dignitoso. Hanno realizzato così il loro sogno, ora non più clandestino. Il racconto delle loro storie, nel reportage di Stefano Marzoli.
